The Instituto de Conhecimento (Knowledge Institute), founded in 2012, is one of the most important milestones in Abreu Advogados' strategy. In an innovative law firm that is open to the community, it is important to produce and share knowledge that is relevant to legal practice. Cooperation with universities, research centers, companies, and other institutions is essential.

Abreu Advogados' Instituto de Conhecimento (Knowledge Institute) enhances the technical, organizational, and human credibility that guides the firm, with the aim of meeting the high expectations of its clients.

The Instituto de Conhecimento (Knowledge Institute) project was recognized by the Financial Times, winning the European “Innovation in Skills Development” Award in 2023 and a nomination in the “Innovation in Regulatory Solutions” category in 2024 at the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Awards Europe.

As Abreu Professor in Law and Innovation at Católica Global School of Law, I have had the pleasure of working closely with the Instituto de Conhecimento at Abreu Advogados. The Institute plays a crucial role in connecting legal theory with practice, creating a space for meaningful dialogue between academics and practitioners and different generations of lawyers, policy makers and entrepreneurs.

What impresses me most is its forward-thinking and interdisciplinary approach, especially in fields like intellectual property and new technologies, which align closely with my research and teaching activities in Lisbon. Being part of these discussions, alongside leading professionals and fellow academics, has been both enriching and inspiring. The Instituto is a prime example of how a law firm can foster both innovation and excellence, and I look forward to continuing my involvement with its work.

The protocol signed between Abreu Advogados, Instituto do Conhecimento and NOVA School of Law has consolidated a major innovative step in the corporate responsibility of law firms in the training and capacity building of young people and professionals in the areas of ESG.

Since August 2022, the protocol has facilitated the creation of the ESG Impact Chair, partnerships with government bodies for executive training of SMEs on sustainability reporting obligations, teaching of curricular units in the areas of environmental, climate and energy law that have already trained more than 200 students, and scientific initiation in research of approximately 40 students and members of the NOVA Green Lab on topics related to environmental, climate and energy law.

My participation in the Abreu Sustainability School was truly enriching.

I had the opportunity to deepen my knowledge of current and relevant topics, collaborate with colleagues from different faculties and also interact directly with important players in the legal profession, as well as professionals from other areas, which provided a unique training experience.
